Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Altoona, Pennsylvania- The Portland Sea Dogs put an exclamation point on their seven-game road trip on Sunday night, wrapping up a three-game series against the Altoona Curve. Alex Hassan, Tim Federowicz, and Chih-Hsien Chiang all hit home runs, while Chris Balcom-Miller pitched five strong innings, as the Sea Dogs completed a three-game sweep of the Curve with an 12-4 victory at Blair County Ballpark.

The Sea Dogs wasted little time in starting the scoring, putting three runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Jeremy Hazelbaker led off the contest with a walk, stole second, and scored on Ryan Lavarnway's double to left-center field. Chih-Hsien Chaing advanced Lavarnway to third on a ground out, before Will Middlebrooks singled up the middle for Portland's second run. Middlebrooks came around to score two batters later, as Tim Federowicz doubled and Jon Hee singled, with both hits traveling to right field.

Portland added a run in the second, as Vladimir Frias led off with a single, before scoring on a ground out by Alex Hassan. Altoona picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Jordy Mercer, but quickly gave a run back in the fifth, when Will Middlebrooks singled home Hassan.

The Sea Dogs added to their offensive output in the seventh, using a pair of home runs to extend the lead to seven. Alex Hassan led off the inning with a solo home run to left-center for his fourth of the season. Later in the frame, Chih-Hsien Chiang singled, and was able to cruise the rest of the way home, as Tim Federowicz deposited a long ball into the bleachers for his fourth homer of the campaign.

One inning later, the visitors continued to rip on Altoona pitching, putting four more runs on the board. Vladimir Frias singled, Jeremy Hazelbaker doubled, and Ryan Lavarnway walked, loading the bases with two outs for Chih-Hsien Chiang. One of Portland's hottest hitters as of late made sure to cash in, as Chiang blasted a grand slam to center field.

Jordy Mercer smacked his second home run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Curve, bringing two runs around. Kris Watts followed with a solo home run for Altoona in the ninth. However, the margin was too big to overcome, as the Sea Dogs picked up the 12-4 victory.

Chris Balcom-Miller (1-1) pitched beautifully for Portland, going five innings, allowing one run, three hits, and one walk, while striking out seven. Aaron Pribanic (5-3) took the loss for Altoona, allowing five runs, eight hits, and two walks, while striking out four, in five innings of work.

The Sea Dogs will now return to Hadlock Field for a six-game homestand against Richmond and Bowie. The first of the stretch takes place on Tuesday night at 7:00.

During the homestand, the Sea Dogs will celebrate Good Neighbor Night, sponsored by State Farm Insurance on Wednesday, June 8th.
