Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets handed starter Taylor Rogers all the run support he'd need in the fifth inning, sending ten to the plate and scoring five times en route to an 8-2 win over the Greenville Drive in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The win gives the GreenJackets back-to-back wins for the fifth time this season and is the eighth straight win for the GreenJackets in the opening game of a series.

Adam Duvall's two-run home run broke a scoreless tie to give Augusta a 2-0 lead with one out in the fifth. Later in the inning, the GreenJackets added two more on back-to-back RBI doubles from Rafael Rodriguez and Devin Harris to double the two-run lead to four. Jeff Arnold followed with a single to bring home another run and cap the scoring in the five-run frame.

Rogers (2-5), in his best start of the year, fired seven shutout innings and allowed five hits and a walk while striking out five. It was the second time Rogers has thrown seven innings in his last four starts.

Augusta added to the lead on Ryan Scoma's RBI single in the sixth and with leadoff home runs in the seventh and eighth by Devin Harris and Ehire Adrianza respectively.

The Drive got their lone runs of the game off Edward Concepcion in the ninth with three straight hits to open the inning, including an RBI double from Christian Vazquez. A groundout brought the second run home before Concepcion's fourth strikeout of the night ended the ballgame.

Tyler Lockwood (3-2) took the loss for the Drive, allowing five runs on six hits and a walk in his only inning of work for Greenville. Starter Brandon Workman was removed after just four scoreless innings of five-hit baseball. Prior to the GreenJackets outbreak in the fifth, they'd left six men on base in the four innings Workman pitched on a night where they left 11 on over the course of the full contest.

The GreenJackets will look for their first three-game winning streak of the season and to clinch the series win on Wednesday night with Mike Kickham (0-0, 2.25) getting the ball in his second start of the season. Greenville sends Miguel Celestino (2-3, 4.22) to the mound to oppose as the GreenJackets close in on their one-millionth fan under Ripken Baseball ownership. That lucky fan will win a trip for four to Disneyworld, courtesy of Augusta Vascular Center. First pitch will come at 7:05 with the pregame action beginning at 6:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
