Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz Signs Multi-Year Deal with AFL

April 13, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release

TULSA, OKLA. â€" The Arena Football League and Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz reached an agreement on a multi-year extension, the AFL announced today. The agreement puts Kurz at the helm of the AFL through the 2013 season.

"Commissioner Kurz has played a significant role in the AFL since it's inception," Chairman of the AFL Executive Committee Jeff Lamberti said. "There is no better ambassador of the game."

Kurz entered his second season as League Commissioner in 2011 after signing a one-year extension in August. He has been involved with the game for 26 years, including five seasons as President of the af2. He also served as the AFL's Vice President of International Development from 1987-2008.

"It's an honor to continue to lead the Arena Football League. I've watched the League progress since the beginning and I couldn't be more pleased to be a leading part of its growth," Kurz said.

Discussions about entering into a long-term contract with Kurz began in early February at an owners meeting in Las Vegas, NV.

"Back then, we decided it was something that we wanted," Lamberti said. "It's important that you have someone as the Commissioner that has a passion in what they are doing. Whether it's talking to prospective franchises, being on television promoting the game, you need somebody that loves and understands the AFL. He certainly does."

The Board of Directors voted the approval of the multi-year deal on April 13, 2011. The result was a unanimous decision.

The AFL is in its sixth week of action in the 2011 season. The Tampa Bay Storm, who recently named Buccaneers' great Derrick Brooks as Team President, will take on Ron Jaworski's Philadelphia Soul on NFL Network this Friday, April 15, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
