Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, March 24, 2011) - The Home Depot Center, in partnership with Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, will turn off non-essential event lighting at the soccer stadium from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in observance of Earth Hour. The event, which takes place during Chivas USA's match against the Colorado Rapids this Saturday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. PT, will include turning off all lighting in the venue's 42 luxury suites. The Home Depot Center and Chivas USA will also provide public address announcements regarding Earth Hour during Saturday's soccer match, as well as Earth Hour messaging on both organizations' websites and social media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook.
At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, hundreds of millions of people across the globe will switch off the lights of homes and businesses for one hour. The goal of Earth Hour is to show people that taking even the seemingly smallest measures to conserve energy is a big step in the right direction for communities, business and governments across the globe.
The Home Depot Center joins 34 other AEG-affiliated venues in 25 cities, six countries and three continents will participating in the World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) Earth Hour, the world's largest annual public action for the environment. In 2010, AEG formalized its commitment to reduce environmental operations around the globe by launching its AEG 1EARTH program and sustainability report, an industry first, which outlined goals specific to energy, waste, water and emission-reduction targets.
What started in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 with 2.2 million people has spread in the past three years to be the largest global event with more than 128 countries and global landmarks such as Golden Gate Bridge, Rome's Coliseum and Coca Cola billboard in Times Square.
Chivas USA plays a second straight home game to start the 2011 MLS season, hosting the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. The Rapids, who captured MLS Cup in 2010, are coming off a 3-1 win over expansion side Portland Timbers. Tickets are available now, and fans can also pick up Season Seats starting at just $10 per game. For more information, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com .
