Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that free-agent non-import linebacker Tim St. Pierre has signed a contract with the club. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
¬ÅTim is a young non-import linebacker, long-snapper and special-teams player, ¬Â said Hufnagel. ¬ÅHe will provide excellent depth for our football team as a linebacker and long-snapper and will provide help on our coverage teams, which were an issue for our club at times last season. ¬Â
St. Pierre made 13 special-teams tackles and one defensive tackle in 17 regular-season games with the Edmonton Eskimos last season and was the club's nominee for the CFL's Most Outstanding Special Teams Player award. The six-foot, 235-pounder had 11 tackles, 33 special-teams wrap-ups and one fumble recovery in three seasons with Edmonton.
"I'm very excited to be joining the Stampeders organization, ¬Â said St. Pierre. ¬ÅI've had the chance to play against the Stamps a number of times over the past few years and I have great admiration for the way the team plays and for the level of confidence and leadership displayed by the coaching staff. Those are the type of people I want to be surrounded with. I have a strong feeling that this is a good place for me to play and to try and win a championship."
The 24-year old, Hamilton, Ont., native was drafted by the Edmonton in the third round (19th overall) of the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft.
