BAKERSFIELD, February 5, 2011- The Bakersfield Jam (18-12) beat the Springfield Armor (9-21) by a score of 128-99 at the Jam Events Center tonight. Derrick Byars poured in a career-best 43 points as a member of the Jam. Bakersfield has now surpassed last season's win total (17).
Springfield's Tony Bobbitt picked it up where he left off last night (when he hit 8 three-pointers), putting the Armor up 3-0 to open the game. Bakersfield answered back by going on an 18-2 run and never looked back, leading 74-45 at the half. The Jam extended that lead in the second half and led by as many as 37 points in the game.
After setting a season-high for team assists the night before with 34, the Jam shared the ball once again and tallied a new team assists season-high with 35 on the night. They forced 19 Springfield turnovers and got out in transition to score 21 fast-break points, compared to Armor's 2. Bakersfield shot 52.7% from the field and 45.5% from downtown to finish with 15 three-pointers to earn the victory.
Three Bakersfield Jam players recorded a double-double this evening. Clippers assignee, Willie Warren, had 24 points and 10 assists off the bench. Drew Naymick put-up 12 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots. Stephen Dennis contributed 10 points, dished out 10 assists and snatched 4 steals.
Springfield was led by the Sixers assignee, Craig Brackins, with a double-double of 21 points and 16 boards. Guard Scottie Reynolds finished with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Tony Bobbitt added 15 points and 7 assists.
Up next for the Jam are the Texas Legends, coached by the first female head coach to lead an NBA D-League team, Basketball Hall of Famer, Nancy Lieberman. Bakersfield will face Texas for the first of their three-game series on Friday, February 11th at 7 p.m.
