BAKERSFIELD'S JOHNSON NAMED NBA DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Trey Johnson of the Bakersfield Jam has been named NBA Development League Player of the Month for games played in December.
The honor, the first of the 2010-11 season, is also the first of Johnson's career. Johnson, a 6-5, 215-pound guard out of Jackson State who earned two GATORADE Call-Ups to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009, led Bakersfield to an 8-2 record on the month, averaging 27.6 points, 4.9 assists and 4.3 rebounds. Johnson scored more than 20 points in nine of the Jam's 10 games in December, and his 43-point performance in a win over Austin on Dec. 15, a game in which he also had 11 rebounds, is the league's highest single-game individual point total this season. In addition to shooting 98-of-198 (.495) from the field, Johnson also shot 87.8 percent (72-of-82) from the free-throw line. This month's honorable mention selections for NBA D-League Player of the Month were Texas' Joe Alexander, Austin's Marcus Cousin, New Mexico's Shane Edwards, Utah's Orien Greene, Iowa's Othyus Jeffers, Erie's Ivan Johnson, Fort Wayne's Darnell Lazare, Reno's Aaron Miles, Springfield's Scottie Reynolds, Maine's DeShawn Sims, Idaho's Antoine Walker and Tulsa's Latavious Williams.
