Red Claws Team Appearances at Skillin's, Gritty's to Highlight Week

PORTLAND, ME - 'Tis the season to give, and the Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, will hold several events over the next week to support three area charities, the Bruce Roberts Toy Fund, Toys For Tots and the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

FRI., DEC. 3 BRUCE ROBERTS TOY FUND NIGHT: The Red Claws game vs. the Fort Wayne Mad Ants will be Bruce Roberts Toy Fund Night as the team helps raise much-needed funds for the holiday charity. To celebrate the event, the Press Herald will distribute padded seat cushions to the first 500 fans to enter the Portland Expo. The game will be the first of three events the Red Claws will hold for the Bruce Roberts Toy Fund and will also mark the return of Darnell Lazare, one of the original Red Claws, who returns to Portland for the first time following a Draft day trade. Great seats remain for the game.

SAT., DEC. 4 RED CLAWS TO APPEAR IN FALMOUTH: The Red Claws players will appear at Skillin's Greenhouses (89 Foreside Road/Rt. 88) in Falmouth this Saturday, Dec. 4 from 1:30 - 3 PM. The players will be available for autographs and photos, and Skillin's will donate $5 for every Christmas tree sold on Saturday to the Bruce Roberts Toy Fund in celebration of the appearance. Crusher and Giant Crusher will also be at the event.

SUN., DEC. 5 TOYS FOR TOTS NIGHT: The Red Claws will collect toys before Sunday's 5 PM game vs. the Springfield at their 2nd annual Toys For Tots Night. All fans donating a new, unwrapped toy will be entered to win Red Claws prizes. Great seats remain for the game.

TUES., DEC. 7 PLAYER AUTOGRAPH SIGNING AT GRITTY'S: The Red Claws players will appear at Gritty McDuff's in Portland on Tues., Dec. 7 at 6:30 PM. To celebrate the launch of Gritty's Red Claws Ale in six and twelve packs, Gritty's will donate a portion of the sale of pints of Red Claws Ale during the event to the Bruce Roberts Toy Fund.

THURS., DEC. 16 RED CLAWS & QUIRK "STUFF THE TRUCK" FOR GOOD SHEPHERD: The Red Claws will join with presenting sponsor Quirk Chevrolet to collect much-need donations for the Good Shepherd Food Bank during the team's 2nd Annual Food Drive. Fans are encouraged to bring canned or other nonperishable food items to the Red Claws game on Thursday where they will be collected in a pickup truck provided by Quirk in front of the arena. Volunteers from Good Shepherd will be on hand to collect the food items, and everyone making a donation will be entered to win prizes provided by Quirk Chevrolet and the Red Claws. Great seats remain for the game.

MAINE RED CLAWS: 2009-10 marked the inaugural season for the Maine Red Claws, the minor league affiliate of the Boston Celtics and Charlotte Bobcats. The NBA D-League team plays its home games at the Portland Expo Building. The franchise is owned and operated by Maine Basketball, LLC, which is principally owned by Bill Ryan Sr., the retired chairman of TD Bank, and Bill Ryan Jr., owner and operator of Oxford Plains Speedway. Jon Jennings, a partner in Maine Basketball, LLC and former Boston Celtics assistant coach, serves as the team's president and general manager.
