Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have claimed import kicker Justin Medlock off of waivers from Toronto, the club announced today.
The California native made his CFL debut with the Toronto Argonauts in 2009 and went on to have a successful rookie campaign which included tying a club record by kicking seven field goals in one game in week seven. He ended the season with 79 kickoffs for 4764 yards (60.3 average) and a single and 120 punts for 5076 yards (42.3 average) and a single. He also went 40-46 on field goal attempts and had a perfect convert record as he ended the season 22 for 22. His numbers were good enough to end the year as the Argonauts Outstanding Special Teams Player.
In announcing the signing of Justin Medlock, Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "Our staff has complete confidence in Derek Schiavone and that hasn't changed, but Justin Medlock gives us great flexibility and depth for the balance of this season and in 2011. We've added two good young players in Etienne Legare and Damaso Munoz, bolstered our roster with Medlock and gained significant cap flexibility for next year."
Medlock exercised his option year in 2010 and went on to spend some time on the rosters of the Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions. He was eventually released from the Lions on June 29th. Justin joined the Argos on September 12th but was recently put on waivers after Toronto traded for Canadian K/P Noel Prefontaine.
