American Association Welcomes Four Teams

October 13, 2010 - American Association (AA)
Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts, in conjunction with the American Association, announced a plan for realignment in 2011.

The most significant change will be the addition of four new franchises. The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, Gary SouthShore RailCats, Kansas City T-Bones, and Winnipeg Goldeyes (all formerly of the Northern League) join the existing 10 American Association clubs to create a 14-team league for next season. The four new teams all have histories of at least nine years and have combined for six Northern League championships.

"This is an exciting change for the American Association as well as the Wingnuts", said Wingnuts' President Josh Robertson. "Adding four great organizations has strengthened our league considerably, and gives our fans a chance to see some new teams and players throughout the season. We are also very excited about building a geographic rivalry with the T-Bones."

The league now features three divisions with the Wingnuts joining Gary, Kansas City, Lincoln, and Sioux City in the American Association Central. The North Division includes Fargo-Moorhead, St. Paul, Sioux Falls, and Winnipeg. The South Division remains intact and is comprised of El Paso, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Pensacola, and Shreveport-Bossier.

The length of the regular season increases from 96 games to 100. The American Association is currently finalizing schedule dates for 2011 as well as a playoff system.

Season ticket and ticket package deposits are available now. For more information, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS or visit the Wingnuts' official website at www.wichitawingnuts.com
