Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Round Rock Express Baseball Owner and CEO Reid Ryan announced Friday that Dave Fendrick, who has been a member of the Express front office since the franchise's inception in the late 1990s, has been promoted from general manager to president. Ryan also announced that former Nashville Sounds vice president and general manager George King has been hired as Express executive vice president and general manager.
Fendrick, a 33-year veteran of professional baseball, began his association with the Express as the club's initial assistant general manager for sales and marketing. He moved into the role of vice president and general manager prior to the 2005 season, and he has served as senior vice president and general manager the past two seasons.
"It has been a privilege to be a part of the Round Rock Express since the very beginning," Fendrick said. "As we prepare for our 12th season and our first season as a Texas Rangers affiliate, our mission remains to provide affordable family entertainment to Central Texas. Our commitment to the fans and the community has not waivered, and it is my goal to strengthen that relationship. I am honored to have been chosen for this position."
Fendrick assumes the president position that was vacated by recently named Texas Rangers senior vice president Jay Miller.
"There was no doubt that Dave was the right man to follow Jay as president of the Express," Ryan said. "We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Dave's expertise and track record in professional baseball and equally as fortunate to have someone so well-groomed for the president's position. Dave has been an integral part of our success since day one, and we firmly believe he will not only continue our success but lead the organization into an even brighter future."
A seasoned veteran of the Pacific Coast League, King worked 12 years in the league office before joining the Sounds front office staff. An East Texas native, King spent his last four years with the PCL as vice president of business and operations, a position in which he supervised all on-field baseball operations for the league. His professional baseball tenure dates back to 1995 with the Phoenix Firebirds; he held positions with several teams, including the San Francisco Giants.
"What is happening in Round Rock has grabbed the attention of everyone in baseball. I am humbled by the opportunity to join such a well-respected organization," King said. "I appreciate what the Ryan and Sanders families stand for and believe in the vision of the franchise to provide a first-rate experience for its fans. The chance to build on the momentum generated by the Express in the last decade and to do it under the leadership of someone like Dave Fendrick really makes this something special. My family and I are excited to return to Texas."
King was named director of baseball operations of Major League Baseball's Arizona Fall League in 2000, following Hall of Famer Frank Robinson in that position. Prior to working in professional baseball, King served nine years in the U.S. Navy and was deployed in Japan for five years. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for distinguished service.
"George is one of the most highly respected men in minor league baseball, and he will be a tremendous asset to the Express," Ryan said. "His vast knowledge of the Pacific Coast League and baseball operations will allow us to become a much more efficient and productive organization. George has been involved in so many areas of professional baseball during his career that he is perfect fit for overseeing our daily operations."
The Express open their 12th season April 7, 2011, at The Dell Diamond, beginning the season with four-game series against the Iowa Cubs and Omaha Royals.
