Sioux Falls Stampede News Release

The Sioux Falls Stampede once again rallied from behind, but fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Des Moines Buccaneers in the first game of the USHL Fall Classic, Wednesday in Sioux City. Sam Coatta and Ryan Misiak tallied the goals for the Stampede who rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force overtime. The Stampede are now 0-1-2 in preseason play.

The game started off with a shattering start when Patrick Kirtland of the Buccaneers missed a check on Marcus Perrier of the Stampede and sent himself right through the glass just six minutes in. The glass completely shattered causing a 15 minute delay in the game. When the game resumed, the Bucs took advantage as Doug Clifford scored on a breakaway to give the Bucs a 1-0 lead after one despite being outshot by the Stampede 8-6 in the period.

The Bucs added to their lead 3:35 into the second period when Dan DeSalvo scored just seconds after a Stampede powerplay expired. Taylor Wolfe found DeSalvo down the right wing boards and DeSalvo beat Stampede netminder Juho Olkinnuora on the stick side to make it a 2-0 lead. The rest of the period belonged to the Stampede who outshot Des Moines 12-4 in the period and found the back of the net at 6:48 on a goal by Sam Coatta. Coatta picked up a bouncing puck in the neutral zone and broke away all alone into the Bucs zone, beating Bucs netminder Tyler Bruggeman on a forehand shot to make it 2-1 after two periods.

The Stampede continued to battle in the third period, out shooting the Bucs 10-5.Still trailing by a goal with just under seven minutes remaining, Cotta again got the Stampede rolling by wristing a shot that was stopped and trapped on the side of the net until Ryan Misiak skated in, stole the puck and jammed it into the back of the net to tie the game at two.

Due to time constraints, the game went straight to a shootout where the Stampede were outscored 2-1. Brent Darnell scored the only goal in the shootout for the Herd. Sioux Falls outshot the Bucs 30-16 on the night and finished 0 for 3 on the powerplay while Des Moines was 0 for 5.

The Stampede will continue play at the USHL Fall Classic on Friday at 4 PM when they face the Youngstown Phantoms at the Tyson Events Center. Fans can watch the game on the B2 Networks by clicking here .
