New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats of the Eastern League announced tonight that their outstanding 22-year-old Outfielder, Ben Revere, has received the call to join the Minnesota Twins for the final weeks of the 2010 American League Pennant race. The 5'9"/ 175-pound speedster from Richmond, KY is the first Rock Cat to be promoted directly to Minnesota this season.

A 1st Round pick (28th overall) by Minnesota out of Lexington Catholic High School in 2007, the left-handed hitting Center Fielder was selected as the Twins' Minor League Player of the Year in both 2008 and 2009. In 94 games this year for the Rock Cats, the former Florida State (2009) and Eastern League (2010) All-Star posted a .305 Batting Average, ranking him 2nd in the League's Top 10 at the time of his promotion. Ben's 110 Hits for the 2010 Rock Cats came primarily while hitting out of the leadoff slot, and included 10 Doubles, 4 Triples and 1 HR. His 36 Stolen Bases placed him 3rd in the entire circuit, despite having missed three weeks in August after being struck in the face by a pitch. The August 3rd incident resulted in a broken orbital bone under his right eye and, many thought, would end his season. Undaunted, Revere returned to action on August 27th and quickly picked up where he left off. In his final game in a Rock Cats uniform last night, he collected two hits and made a fine running catch at New Britain Stadium.

Ben Revere will join the Twins in time for their 2:10 PM home game tomorrow against the Texas Rangers. He will wear uniform #37.
