THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... begin their final series of the regular season this evening with the first of four straight games against the Visalia Rawhide at Municipal Stadium. San Jose posted an 8-7 victory over the visiting Inland Empire 66ers last night to take two out of three in the series. Francisco Peguero finished 3-for-4 with four RBI's, including a key three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, to lead the Giants offensive attack. Charlie Culberson added his 16th home run of the season while Joel Weeks contributed a pair of RBI's. Oliver Odle became the first 12-game winner in the California League this season after tossing six innings with three runs (all earned) and seven hits allowed. Odle struck out five and walked none. Jason Stoffel allowed two runs in the ninth inning, but still recorded his 24th save of the year.

Media Coverage... The entire series can be heard live on www.sjgiants.com with Joe Ritzo and Rocky Koplik calling all of the action.

San Jose Leads Division By Two Games... The Giants (73-63) possess a two- game lead over the Stockton Ports (71-65) for the top overall record in the North Division with four games remaining in the regular season. Home field advantage (hosting Game Five) in the North Division Series will be awarded to the team with the best overall record that's won a half. San Jose owns the tiebreaker with Stockton as the Giants hold the edge in the season series (14-12) versus the Ports. A Giants victory tonight combined with a Stockton loss in their game at Bakersfield would clinch home field advantage for San Jose.

Brandon Crawford Added To Giants Roster... Shortstop/DH Brandon Crawford was added to the Giants roster yesterday. Crawford, who entered the year ranked as the #9 prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization according to Baseball America, was batting .241 with seven home runs and 22 RBI's in 79 games with Double-A Richmond this season. Before yesterday, Crawford hadn't played since July 6 due to a broken right hand. The 23-year old began last season with San Jose and hit .371 with six homers and 17 RBI's in 25 games before receiving a promotion to Double-A. He was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in yesterday's contest.

Peguero Extends Hitting Streak To 16 Games... Outfielder Francisco Peguero finished 3-for-4 yesterday to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 16 games. Peguero owns a .375 average (27-for-72) during the current hit streak. Brandon Belt (18 games, April 11-30) has the longest Giants hitting streak this season.

Versus The Rawhide... The Giants are 12-10 against the Visalia Rawhide this season, including a 6-3 mark at Municipal Stadium. San Jose will play 11 out of their final 21 regular season games versus the Rawhide.

Adrianza Named Top Defensive Player... Shortstop Ehire Adrianza was named San Jose's Defensive Player of the Year before last night's game. Adrianza boasts a .971 fielding percentage (second in the league among shortstops) and has been a part of 67 double plays this season. The Giants will honor their Relief Pitcher of the Year before tonight's game.

Culberson Selected To Arizona Fall League... Second baseman Charlie Culberson has been selected to participate in the Arizona Fall League this year. Culberson joins former San Jose Giants Brandon Belt and Conor Gillaspie from the San Francisco organization on the Scottsdale Scorpions roster. The season begins on October 12. Culberson is currently batting .295 with 28 doubles, 16 home runs and 71 RBI's. He's also collected 24 stolen bases.

Stoffel's Saves... Relief pitcher Jason Stoffel has converted his last 12 save opportunities dating back to July 7. In 21 relief appearances during that span, Stoffel possesses a 3.54 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 20 1/3 innings. His 24 saves this season are tied for fourth in the California League and tops in the San Francisco Giants farm system.

San Jose Wins League Record Sixth Consecutive First Half Title... The San Jose Giants won their California League record sixth consecutive first half North Division title this season. The Giants finished the first half with a 45-25 mark - eight games ahead of both the Modesto Nuts (37-33) and Visalia Rawhide (37-33). By virtue of winning the first half, San Jose secures a berth in the playoffs and will receive a first round bye. The Giants have won three league championships (2005, 2007, 2009) in the last five seasons and will be attempting to win back-to-back titles for the first time in franchise history this September. San Jose will open the playoffs on Saturday, September 11 at Municipal Stadium with Game One of the best-of-five North Division Series. The previous league record for consecutive first half division titles was three (Visalia).

Visalia Rawhide... The Visalia Rawhide, an affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, enter tonight's action with an overall record of 71-65 - two games ahead of the Modesto Nuts (69-67) for the wild card lead in the North Division. First baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been named the California League's Most Valuable Player. Goldschmidt is leading the league in home runs (34) and doubles (40) while he's second in RBI's (103) and tied for ninth in batting average (.311). Left-hander Dan Taylor (6-6, 6.08 ERA) is slated to make the start on the mound tonight.
