Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Windsor) The Windsor Spitfires hosted their annual Blue-Red matchup to conclude their 2010 Training Camp and welcomed over 1,000 fans to the WFCU Centre earlier tonight as Team Red put on a show from start to finish, defeating Team Blue 5-1. Alex Khokhlachev (Windsor Spitfires - OHL) and Zack Kassian (Windsor Spitfires - OHL) of Team Red showed great chemistry throughout the game and were dangerous seemingly every shift they were on the ice together, as Khokhalchev enjoyed a two-goal and four point night while Kassian registered one goal and three points in the contest.
Ryan Ellis (Windsor Spitfires - OHL) and Dylan Seguin (Windsor Spitfires - OHL) also posted two points for the Team Red. Michael Nishi (Georgetown Raiders - OJAHL/Windsor Spitfires - OHL) and Troy Malecki (Detroit Compuware U-17's - MWEHL) played outstanding in goal for Team Red, making several big saves and combined to stop 45 of 46 shots. Sammy Banga (LaSalle Vipers Jr. B - GOJHL) scored the lone goal for Team Blue.
Windsor Spitfires head coach Bob Jones was pleased with the efforts of many players in camp and offered his thoughts, "Both Khokhlachev and Kuhnhackl established themselves tonight and can be impact guys for us. I also thought Kassian continued to look like a man amongst boys and he was impressive. The leadership of our veterans was also evident throughout the camp, particularly with Ryan Ellis who has been a great leader in camp and was an excellent role model for the young guys. In terms of guys coming into camp, Eric Locke really caught my eye and scored the most goals of anyone who played in our both our development camp earlier this summer and in training camp."
"I'm really looking forward to the exhibition schedule. The intensity goes up another level in exhibition and we have some good games to test our young players. We'll see how they respond to playing at a higher pace. I've been impressed with the play of many young guys in camp which include Kuhnhackl, Khohklachev and Cortellessa and also with Malecki and Vespi in net," said Warren Rychel, Vice-President and General Manager of the Windsor Spitfires. "I'm also glad that we will have Ryan Ellis, Cam Fowler and Zack Kassian available to play for us against the Czech Republic on September 9th here at the WFCU Centre. This will be an intense contest and we're looking forward to the challenge of playing the Czechs."
