Chivas USA Notes (3-1 loss at Seattle Sounders FC, Starfire Sports Complex, Tukwila, Wash., 9/1/10)

- Chivas USA's U.S. Open Cup run came to a halt on Wednesday night in Tukwila, Wash., as Seattle Sounders FC captured a 3-1 victory over the Red-and-White at Starfire Sports Complex. Nate Jaqua scored twice and Steve Zakuani had two assists for the hosts, while Jesús Padilla scored Chivas USA's only goal.

- Seattle got off to a great start in the 10th minute when Steve Zakuani dribbled down the left side of the field, cut through the defense and into the box, then laid a cross into the path of Nate Jaqua. The forward finished from close range to give the Sounders the lead.

- The Red-and-White gave up a second goal in the 58th minute in similar fashion, with Zakuani again beating the defense down the left side before playing a ball into the middle for Montero, who had a simple finish to make the game 2-0.

- Several attacking subs followed for Chivas USA as the visitors attempted to get back into the game. Jesús Padilla gave the Red-and-White a glimmer of hope in the 68th minute when he took a knockdown at the top of the box from Justin Braun and fired a low shot past Kasey Keller to make the score 2-1.

- As Chivas USA pushed forward to try to get an equalizing goal, Seattle counterattacked effectively, and were rewarded in stoppage time when Jaqua scored his second of the game, heading home a Roger Levesque pass with little time left to play in the match.

- With the win, Seattle will host the Columbus Crew in the U.S. Open Cup final on October 5. This was the furthest that Chivas USA had advanced in the tournament, and was the club's first semifinal appearance in any competition.

- The Red-and-White now turn to Saturday's league match at the Colorado Rapids, as Chivas USA continues to battle for a spot in the playoffs. The match kicks off on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. PT and will air on FS West, KWHY, and W Radio 690 AM.

- Chivas USA Head Coach Martín Vásquez, on tonight's match: "I'm disappointed, because we really wanted to go to our first final.... In a game like today, a semifinal of a knockout competition, you need to take your chances well, and I thought that was the difference." Post-game reactions from Vásquez, as well as Jonathan Bornstein and Paulo Nagamura, are available in the Videos section of cdchivasusa.com .

- The Red-and-White will train on Thursday at Starfire Sports Complex before departing for Denver on Friday. The club returns to Los Angeles on Sunday morning after the match against the Rapids.

- Next home game: Chivas USA returns home for three matches in quick succession, starting with the New England Revolution on Friday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center, then facing Chivas de Guadalajara in an exhibition at PETCO Park in San Diego on Tuesday, September 14 at 8:00 p.m., and finishing a busy stretch against the Kansas City Wizards on Sunday, September 19 at 5:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center.
