Erie Otters forward David Broll and Canada captured their third straight gold medal at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka with a 1-0 victory over the United States Saturday afternoon in Piestany, Slovakia.

The lone goal of the contest was scored by Western Hockey League forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins 1:42 into the first period. Nugent-Hopkins, a member of the Red Deer Rebels, is the early favorite for first overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

With the championship, Broll joins Ryan O'Reilly as Otters that have played on a gold-medal winning team at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka. Broll finished the tournament with three assists.

With a gold medal now packed in his suitcase, Broll will return to North America and join 34 players at the NHL Research, Development and Orientation Camp August 18-19 in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Tickets for all Otters home games go on sale Monday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. Buy tickets online at otterhockey.com, charge by phone at (814) 455-7779, the Tullio Arena box office or any Erie-area Ticketmaster locations.
