Dominguez Drives In Four in Second Straight Win

Rome, GA - Chris Dominguez belted a first-inning, two-run home run to give the Augusta GreenJackets an early lead they never lost in a 7-4 win over the Rome Braves on Friday night.

The Dominguez blast - his 18th of the year - came as part of a two-hit, four-RBI night for the Augusta slugger. The GreenJackets extended the lead to three runs in the third on a Nick Liles sacrifice fly before blowing things wide open in the fourth inning. Liles drew a bases loaded walk to bring the lead to four while Dominguez followed two hitters later with a two-run single to give Augusta a 6-0 advantage. Ryan Cavan followed with an RBI single to put Augusta up 7-0.

Zack Wheeler, making only his second start since May, threw five scoreless innings of two-hit baseball to get his first win since May 5th. Wheeler (2-3) didn't walk anyone, hit two batters and struck out seven while pitching in front of a large group of friends and family in somewhat of a homecoming game for the righty out of nearby Dallas, Georgia.

The Braves got their first run of the night in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Bobby Rauh after Craig Clark loaded the bases on a hit, a walk and an error. He avoided further trouble in the inning but couldn't finish the game without incurring further damage. After hitting a batter and having another reach on the third error of the night, Clark got two quick outs before serving up a three-run home run on the 3-2 pitch to Phil Gosselin in the ninth. After Matt Weaver singled, Chris Wilson replaced Clark and got the final out of the game when Weaver mistakenly left second base after stealing the bag on Wilson's second pitch. Weaver thought there was a foul ball that wasn't and was tagged out between first and second to end the game. Wilson earned his second save of the year in the brief outing.

Brett DeVall (7-9) surrendered all seven runs on seven hits in a 3.2-inning stint. The Rome bullpen fired 5.1 scoreless innings of two-hit ball to cool the Augusta bats at the end of the game.

Andy Reichard (3-0, 3.69) takes the ball as the GreenJackets look to make it three wins in a row. Rome will send fellow righty Ryan Weber (1-4, 6.75) to oppose on Saturday night in the third game of the series.
