Intimidators Back to .500, Win Fourth Straight

The Kannapolis Intimidators slugged out 15 hits and Cameron Bayne went seven innings as the Intimidators are back at .500, with an even 23-23 record in a 7-5 win on Friday night against the Savannah Sand Gnats at Grayson Stadium.

Ian Gac got the party started in the first inning again as Darin Gorski allowed the first three to reach before Gac hit a sacrifice fly for the game's opening run. He got out of the inning allowing just one run and the Intimidators (23-23) led 1-0.

Bayne made his first appearance in the game and allowed two runs in the first on a single by Mat Den Dekker and a triple from Robbie Shields, who would later score on a sac fly to give the Sand Gnats (19-28) a 2-1 advantage. However, in typical Bayne (10-9) fashion, he would settle down.

The Intimidators tied the game on an RBI-double in the third from Nick Ciolli and took the led in the fifth on an RBI-double by Gac before they blew the game open. Against Gorski (5-7) in the sixth, Miguel Gonzalez led off with a single before a sacrifice bunt and two more singles by Daniel Wagner and Tyler Saladino. A walk to Tyler Saladino loaded the bases before Gac hit a two-run single and Ciolli singled in one more. All of the runs were charged to Gorski who exited before the singles and he went 5.1, allowing seven and the Sand Gnats trailed 7-2 after the sixth.

Off Bayne in the seventh, the Sand Gnats got a double and a two-run home run to make it 7-4 and scored a run and had the tying run at the plate against Jake Petricka before he worked out at 7-5. Taylor Thompson earned his fourth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth and he helped the Intimidators reach .500.

The Intimidators had 15 hits, including three for each Gonzalez and Silverio and Gac paced the team with four RBI. The win for Bayne is his tenth and he leads the South Atlantic League in wins.

Kannapolis looks to make it four straight wins and a chance to get above .500 as Matt Wickswat rejoins the rotation for a 6:05 pm first pitch and he will be opposed by Taylor Whitenton.
