'Dads fall to 'Dogs before 3,232 on Friday

HICKORY, NC - The Charleston RiverDogs grabbed an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Hickory Crawdads, 18-4, on Friday night, before 3,232 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

The RiverDogs (54-62, 23-24) jumped out to an early 8-0 lead against 'Dads starter LHP Miguel De Los Santos (1-1, 4.87 ERA). Seven of the eight were scored on a grand slam and three-run home run by C J.R. Murphy, who finished the game 3-for-6 with nine RBIs and three runs scored.

The Crawdads (66-49, 26-19) scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to 8-2 on an RBI double by DH Yefry Castillo and an RBI groundout by C Leonel De Los Santos.

After Charleston extended their advantage to 11-2 through 6.5 frames, Hickory responded with another pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. With runners on the corners and one out, 1B Ed Koncel brought in the first run on an RBI single and Leonel De Los Santos followed with a fielder's choice that led to a run-scoring error, bringing the score to 11-4.

Charleston tacked on three more runs in the eighth inning and four in the ninth to account for the 18-4 RiverDogs victory. Miguel De Los Santos took the loss for Hickory, allowing eight runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out 10 in four innings. LHP Josh Romanski (8-3, 3.31 ERA) picked up the win for the RiverDogs, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk while fanning five in seven innings of work.
