Lyles Smacks Fifth Homer, But Spikes Fall to Jammers, 11-3

STATE COLLEGE -- Chase Lyles delivered his team-leading fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field in the eighth inning, but it was not enough as the State College Spikes went down to defeat at the hands of the Jamestown Jammers, 11-3, on Monday night at Russell Diethrick Park.

Lyles's home run off of Jamestown reliever Zach Robertson was part of a late Spikes (22-22) rally. After falling behind 6-0 in the first two innings, State College rebounded for a pair of runs in the sixth behind Kelson Brown's double, Gift Ngoepe's sacrifice fly, and an RBI single by Mel Rojas, Jr.

Ngoepe also contributed a double to the Spikes' offensive effort, and served as the middleman on the Spikes' 40^th double play of the year in the fifth inning.

State College starter Colton Cain (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits over the first two innings. Cain also walked three batters and hit one.

Adam Veres (3-1) started for Jamestown (25-18) and went seven innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and a hit batsman while striking out two.

Marcell Ozuna went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer as part of a three-RBI night to lead the Jamestown offense. Noah Perio contributed a four-hit performance as well, including a pair of doubles. Aaron Dudley also delivered two doubles for the Jammers.

Tuesday, the Spikes finish up their four-game road trip with a 7:05 p.m. matchup against the Jammers at Russell Diethrick Park. State College will send left-hander Zac Fuesser (0-1) to the mound for his fifth start of the season. Fuesser threw four hitless, scoreless innings against Williamsport this past Thursday in his last start.

Jamestown will respond with right-hander Saul Gonzalez (3-1). Gonzalez has faced the Spikes earlier this season, starting and pitching four shutout innings in a no-decision on June 30^th . The Panamanian right-hander also has a 2.10 ERA at home this season.
