Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS, FL (July 18th, 2010) - With the tying run standing at second and the go-ahead run at first with one-out in the the ninth inning, reliever Michael Allen induced a game-ending double play as the Miracle held on for a 1-0 victory over Lakeland. The Flying Tigers put a run in scoring position in the final four innings, but the Miracle pitching staff did not break down. Fort Myers (11-11) has now won three in a row to move back to .500 in the second half of the 2010 season. They have won seven of their last nine games.

Michael Tarsi (4-8) pitched six impressive innings, allowing only three hits and no earned runs for the win. He struck out six and walked none. Allen picked up his second save of the year.

The Miracle scored the one and only run of the day in the bottom of the first inning against Lakeland stater Jon Kibler (2-4), who took the tough-luck loss. Jhonathan Goncalves and Brian Dozier had back-to-back singles, to set up an RBI groundout by Deibinson Romero. Kibler lasted seven innings, and allowed just the one run on six hits.

Steve Blevins came on in relief of Tarsi, and worked his way out of several jams. In the seventh, he gave up two singles to lead off the inning but got out unscathed. Francisco Martinez tried to stretch the second single into a double, and was thrown out at second by Evan Bigley. Chris White hit a sharp line-out to first-baseman Nate Hanson, and Brent Wyatt grounded out to first to end the threat.

Blevins also gave up two singles in the eighth, but got out of it by inducing a 6-3-1 double-play. In the ninth he gave up a single and a walk before Allen took over and got out of the inning.

The Miracle will continue with seven more games on their homestand, including three against Lakeland. First pitch Monday night is set for 7:05 p.m.
