Gladiators Bolster Blueline with Pair of Defensemen

The Gwinnett Gladiators have agreed to terms with rookie defensemen Cody Brookwell and Pat Bowen for the 2010-2011 season.

Brookwell finished his senior season at the University of Denver last year. He was named to the All-WCHA Academic Team and ended the 2009-10 season with 5 points (2g, 3a) for the Pioneers.

The Calgary, Alberta, native completed his four-year collegiate career with 12 points on three goals and nine assists in 136 career NCAA games. Before he attended the University of Denver, Brookwell played two seasons from 2004-2006 with the Williams Lake TimberWolves of the BCHL.

Bowen served as team captain last year for Merrimack College where he notched 19 points (1g, 18a) in 37 games. In 124 career collegiate games, Bowen recorded 43 points (4g, 39g) and posted 146 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward played one season with the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League before he attended Merrimack College. In his only season in the USHL, Bowen scored 4 goals and added 6 assists for 10 points in 60 games.

The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2010-11 season on the road before returning home to host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 22nd at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
