Chicago Sky to Host Fitness Festival

The Chicago Sky and Sky Cares Foundation announced today that it will be hosting its annual Fitness Festival, presented by United Healthcare on Friday, July 23 from 4:30-6:30pm prior to the Sky's game against the New York Liberty.

The Chicago Sky Fitness Festival will teach girls numerous ways to incorporate physical fitness activities into their daily lives while having fun. All girls will be able to see role models, mentors, educators and coaches who model and teach positive life habits that they can carry into their adult lives and into their schools and communities, where they can become forces for social change.

There will be over 600 girls from the Chicago land area from organizations including Girl Scouts, Girls in the Game, Chicago Park Districts and Big Brother/Big Sister.

There will be 15 fitness providers who have donated their time to the event which include, Girls in the Game, AthletiCo, Chicago Park District, Mayor's Fitness Council, Chicago Red Stars-soccer, Chicago Bandits-softball, Warrior Angels Martial Arts, Southside boxing, We have you Covered-DDR, bikes, North Shore Women's Rugby, CDW-jump rope, Chicago Force-football, Chicago Youth Rowing, Chicago Sky, and Tennis.

The event will aim to give the participating girls the opportunity to learn fun ways to get active that fit with their busy home and school lives, learn strategies for dealing with conflict and overcoming obstacles. Also, learning how to identify and take action against unrealistic cultural pressures regarding body image, and learning how to become active, confident and positive individuals who others will follow.

All participants will enjoy the exciting match between the Chicago Sky and the New York Liberty at 7:30pm inside Allstate Arena, witnessing professional female athletes and being motivated by what can be accomplished through dedication, determination and a healthy lifestyle.

The Chicago Sky Fitness Fest is made possible by United Healthcare, CDW, Girls in the Game and the Chicago Sky Foundation - Sky Cares.
