Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (July 15, 2010) - On Wednesday, the Bees scored in each of their first five trips to the plate in a win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. On Thursday, they found out the hard way that turnabout is fair play.

Bowling Green scored all seven of their runs in the first five innings of a 7-0 win. Kirby Yates (W, 2-3) led the charge with seven shutout innings of two-hit baseball with six strikeouts.

The Bees trailed for all but three pitches of the game. That's because Cody Rogers launched his fifth home run in eight games since joining the Hot Rods to give the visiting club an early 1-0 advantage.

They were far from finished, however, scoring in each of the next four innings. Bees starter Matt Mitchell, (L, 1-6) still working his way back to full strength after his extended leave from the club, allowed four runs on six hits in three innings. Two unearned runs came home in the fourth on a Deivy Batista fielding error with two outs, and run number seven came on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Bees, who managed only two hits on the entire evening, got only two runners as far as second, and those only came with two outs. Luis Del Rosario's infield single with two outs in the fifth broke up Yates's no-hit bid.

On the defensive side, the Bees had a pair of noteworthy plays. Hilton Richardson made a leaping catch on the run to rob Ty Morrison of extra bases in the seventh, and Gerard Hall's sliding stop and throw on a Gabe Cohen grounder up the middle denied Bowling Green a chance to add to their lead.

The Bees and Hot Rods close out the three-game series on Big Fun Friday presented by Budweiser. Bring your holiday cheer with you to the ballpark for Christmas Eve in July, and enjoy 16-ounce Bud products all evening long. Gates open at 5:30 with first pitch at 6:30.
