Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Niles, Ohio - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Class A Affiliate of the Cleveland Indians will host "Jersey Demolition Night" on Thursday, August 5 as the Scrappers take on the Tri-City Valley Cats (Tampa Bay Rays). All fans that turn in a LeBron James Cavaliers Jersey or any piece of LeBron James Cavaliers Apparel or Merchandise will receive a free Upper Box Seat Ticket for the game.
At the conclusion of the game, the LeBron James items will be ceremoniously destroyed behind second base in a large "LeBronfire". Dan Gilbert, Owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has been invited to lead the post-game ceremony.
Scrappers General Manager, Dave Smith, is hopeful the night will give fans the opportunity to have some closure with LeBron's recent decision to leave Cleveland in favor of the Miami Heat. "Hopefully the night will give the loyal fans of Cleveland and Northeast Ohio a chance to turn the page on a very disappointing chapter in Cleveland sports history. I would doubt that any true Cleveland fan will want to wear their LeBron James jersey ever again."
Additionally, the team will accept as a trade-in the Rally Towels that were given to fans during the "LeBron James - Stay In Cleveland Rally" on July 1 along with any items highlighting other disappointing moments in Cleveland sports history including The Drive, The Fumble, Art Modell moving the Browns to Baltimore, Jordan's shot over Ehlo, and the 1997 World Series. These items will also be destroyed after the game.
"Jersey Demolition Night" will feature $1.00 General Admission Tickets, $1.00 Beers (12 oz.), $1.00 Sodas (12 oz.), and $1.00 Hot Dogs.
Fans are also encouraged to bring new or lightly worn Back to School Clothes or Back to School Supplies to the game. By doing so, fans will also receive a free Upper Box Seat Ticket for the game. All Back to School Items will be donated to Niles Community Services.
