NEW YORK, July 9, 2010 - An all-time high 116 players with NBA Development League experience will highlight the rosters of the 23 teams competing at the 2010 NBA Summer League when the desert classic tips off in Las Vegas this afternoon. The event features 58 games played over 10 days at the COX Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
The Golden State Warriors summer league roster features seven players with NBA D-League experience, the most of any NBA teams playing in Las Vegas, while the Atlanta Hawks, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors each have six former NBA D-Leaguers on their summer league squads. Each of the other 15 NBA teams playing in Las Vegas have at least one player with NBA D-League experience on their summer league team. For the second consecutive year, a team comprised exclusively of 11 NBA D-League players, The NBA D-League Select Team, joins the NBA Summer League.
"Having an all-time high number of players with NBA D-League experience on Summer League rosters are a true testament to the successes the NBA D-League has seen over the last nine years," said Chris Alpert, Vice President of Basketball Operations and Player Personnel for the NBA D-League. "It is encouraging to look at these rosters and see young players who took advantage of the NBA D-League to further their professional basketball careers."
San Antonio Spurs guard Alonzo Gee, the 2010 NBA D-League Rookie of the Year, headlines the group of former NBA D-Leaguers playing in Las Vegas. A product of the University of Alabama, Gee averaged 21.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 38.2 minutes in 36 games last season, earning GATORADE Call-Ups to the Washington Wizards and San Antonio Spurs.
A number of coaches with NBA D-League experience will also be on the benches in Las Vegas. Chris Finch, the 2010 NBA D-League Coach of the Year and the head coach of the 2010 NBA D-League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers will be on the Houston Rockets' bench, while Bryan Gates, the former head coach of the Idaho Stampede will sit on the New Orleans Hornets bench.
NBA TV will air the full NBA Summer League schedule, including when the Select Team takes on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, July 13, at 6:00 p.m. ET, while offering live daily studio programming with NBA Game Time. Fans will also have the opportunity to watch the full slate of games in Las Vegas through the NBA SUMMER LEAGUE BROADBAND, a subscription service offering live NBA Summer League game webcasts via NBA.com/summerleaguebroadband.
