Francis Returns to Gwinnett for 2010-2011 Season

The Gwinnett Gladiators have agreed to terms with forward Matt Francis for the 2010-2011 season.

Francis shared third in scoring among Gladiators rookies during the 2009-2010 season with 40 points (19g, 21a) in 68 games with Gwinnett. He had a career best nine game point-scoring streak from February 21st thru March 11th last season and collected 15 points (8g, 7a) in that span.

Prior to turning pro, Francis finished his collegiate career with Bemidji State University where he notched 41 points (18g, 23a) in 63 games from 2007-2009. The Surry, BC, native began his collegiate career with St. Cloud State and appeared in 45 games from 2004 to 2006. He sat out the 2006-07 season due to NCAA eligibility requirements after he transferred to Bemidji State.

Francis also played one season for the Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (Jr. A) in 2003-04. He led the Eagles in scoring with 87 points and had a team best 32 goals that year.

The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2010-11 season on the road before returning home to host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 22nd at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
