Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
Gavin Hartzog caught the eye of more than just the Muskegon Lumberjacks coaches at the Lumberjacks Camp last week. The University of Wisconsin believes Hartzog is ready to make the next step.
"Gavin had such an outstanding camp. Coach Eaves was here and felt he was ready to compete at the college level," said Lumberjacks Director of Hockey Operations Tim Taylor.
Hartzog, a 6'4" 215-pound forward from Pewaukee, WI, will don Badger red and white this fall instead of black and Vegas gold. He had committed to play for Wisconsin prior to attending the Lumberjacks Camp but was intending to play one more season in the USHL before heading to Madison.
"This is why the USHL and having a team in Muskegon is so exciting. Our players are constantly being scouted by big time Division I programs and NHL Scouts. They will have every opportunity to reach their goals and move on," commented Lumberjacks Head Coach Kevin Patrick.
Muskegon Lumberjacks owner Josh Mervis added, "This is why you come to Muskegon as a playerbecause even at our camp you get the opportunity to achieve your goals of moving up."
Hartzog had been named to the Lumberjacks 25-man active roster. A finalized 25-man roster must be submitted to the USHL by July 1.
