Right wing John Zeiler and defenseman Joe Piskula tallied for the Monarchs. Left wing Alexandre Giroux and defenseman Patrick McNeill scored in regulation for the Bears. MORNING HEADLINES

Hershey's Overtime Goal Ends Monarchs' Season - Union Leader

Trailing in the third period nearly always leads to defeat in hockey. Unfortunately for the Manchester Monarchs, that maxim means nothing to the Hershey Bears. Trailing 2-0 heading in the third period last night at the Giant Center, the Bears scored twice in the third period to tie the game and then got the game-winner from Boyd Kane at 7:06 of overtime to defeat the Monarchs, 3-2, and win the American Hockey League Calder Cup Eastern Conference final series, four games to two.

MONARCHS CALDER CUP FUN FACTS

Needed A Little More Time - The Monarchs pushed seven of their 16 playoff games this season into overtime and walked away with the win in four of those games. Prior to this post-season, the most overtime games the Monarchs played in one playoff season was three during the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs. Overall, Manchester has a record of 7-10 in 17 overtime playoff games in eight playoff seasons.

Award Worthy Performance - The AHL's Goaltender of the Year, netminder Jonathan Bernier, lived up to his regular season title during the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs. Bernier played in all 16 of the Monarchs games and collected a 10-6 record with a 1.81 goals-against-average and a 0.939 save percentage.

Reigning Champs To Defend Title - The Hershey Bears are the reigning Calder Cup Champions and will battle with either Texas or Hamilton for the 2010 title.
