Iowa Cubs News Release
Iowa's four-run eighth inning lifted the Cubs to a 6-3 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in front of 10,259 fans Friday night at Principal Park.
Welington Castillo doubled, driving in the go-ahead run to give Iowa a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning. Iowa was down 3-2 before Castillo's at-bat. Micah Hoffpauir singled and Snyder walked to score on Castillo's double. Pinch-hitter Jason Dubois then added some insurance runs when he hit a two-run homer to left field, giving the Cubs the 6-3 advantage.
The Sky Sox put together a three-run sixth-inning. With one out in the sixth inning Cole Garner of the Sky Sox hit a solo home run. Matt Miller followed with a double before Jay Payton hit a two-run shot to give Colorado Springs its first lead of the night, making it 3-2. However it was all the Sky Sox would muster as three Iowa pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts. Jay Jackson (3-3, 2.13) picked up the win throwing two scoreless innings in relief of starter Mitch Atkins. John Gaub earned his third save of the season, striking out the side in the ninth inning.
Brad Snyder tripled in the second inning and scored when Bryan LaHair doubled, giving Iowa a 1-0 lead. The Cubs scored their second run in the fourth inning when Snyder hit a solo home run, his sixth of the year. LaHair was 3-for-4 while Snyder and Adduci collected two hits in the win.
Taylor Bucholz (0-1, 9.82) took the loss for Colorado Springs.
The Cubs and Sky Sox meet tomorrow for the third game in this series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Principal Park.
