
Fyling Tigers to Host Inaugural Chili Throwdown at Tigertown

Lakeland, FL - The Lakeland Flying Tigers will be hosting their inaugural "Chili Throwdown at Tigertown" presented by Budweiser on Thursday, May 13 at Joker Marchant Stadium prior to the Flying Tigers game vs. the Charlotte Stone Crabs. The chili competition begins at 5:00 pm and first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm. There will be free samples of Bud Light Wheat and Blue Point from 5:00-7:00 pm and $1 beer and soda will be available beginning at 5:00 pm until the end of the 7th inning.
Area Polk County restaurants and individuals are invited to compete for the opportunity to be the Flying Tigers Chili Throwdown Champion. Competitors will be judged in two categories; best chili as voted by the judges and the people's choice award which will be judged by the fans. Winners will receive trophies from the Flying Tigers.
Tickets to the Chili Throwdown are $10 and include free chili samples, free beer samples, live music and a ticket to the Flying Tigers game. Parking is free. Proceeds from the event will benefit Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE) and the senior population that VISTE serves in Lakeland, Bartow, Ft. Meade and Mulberry. Since 1983, VISTE volunteers have helped those 65 and older stay safe and independent in their own homes through a variety of services. VISTE is a United Way agency located in Lakeland, Florida and served 3,397 seniors just last year with hot meals, transportation, groceries, and minor home repairs.
