Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) are pleased to announce that Assistant Coach Doug Johnson has accepted the position of Head Coach/General Manager with the Nipawin Hawks of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). Johnson, a two-year assistant for the Lancers, recently helped guide the team to a West Division regular season championship and a berth in the West Division Finals.
"I can't say enough about the organization in Omaha," said Johnson. "And I owe a great deal of thanks to Bliss [Littler] for giving me the opportunity. The last two years have very rewarding and the Lancers will always be dear to my heart. That said, I'm looking forward to beginning a new chapter in my career."
Johnson, a native of Bracken, Saskatchewan, returns to Nipawin where he began his junior hockey career from 1993 to 1996. This will be the fifth coaching stop for Johnson and third stint as Head Coach. After beginning his coaching career as Assistant Coach for the Billings Bulls of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in 2004-05, Johnson was promoted the following season to Head Coach/GM. A year later, Johnson was brought on as the Assistant Coach of the Odessa Jackalopes in the Central Hockey League (CHL) and was promoted mid-season to interim Head Coach. Most recently, Johnson served as an Assistant Coach with the Tri-City Storm during the 2007-08 season before coming to Omaha.
The entire Omaha Lancers organization extends its sincerest thanks to Coach Johnson for his years of service and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
