Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush dropped game one of the Ray Miron President's Cup Finals in a 4-1 loss to the Allen Americans. The Rush more than doubled the Americans in total shots, 49-21, but gave up four unanswered goals in the second period that proved to be too much to overcome. The two teams will face off in game 2 tomorrow at 7:05pm in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

The Rush and Americans went back and forth through the early going and Rapid City ended the first period with a 13-7 edge in shots.

The shots in the second period were even more lopsided, with Rapid City firing 18 on net to Allen's 8, but the scoreboard told a different story. Nathan O'Nabigon scored the first goal of the finals off of a rebound from the right circle at the 3:49 mark. Then, as a Rush penalty expired, Nino Musitelli beat the Rush defense and circled behind the net and wrapped the puck home for the 2-0 lead. Tobias Whelan then struck off of a Rapid City turnover that resulted in a breakaway that he slid home five-hole on Danny Battochio, ending the netminder's night. Nino Musitelli would again light the lamp, this time with just 54 seconds left in the period on a shot from the slot area that beat Miguel Beaudry.

The third period featured the biggest gap in shots, Rapid City controlling that department 18-6. Rookie defenseman Dave Grimson ended the shutout bid for Chris Whitley when his slapshot from the top of the left circle found the short side of the net, bringing the game to its 4-1 final.

The Rush look to bounce back tomorrow at 7:05pm in the Civic Center Ice Arena. Tickets are still available.
