Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery tied the Montreal Impact 1-1 in a pre-season match played Wednesday afternoon at the Wake Med Soccer Complex in Cary, NC. Forward Tom Heinemann headed Charleston in front in the first half but Montreal took advantage of a defensive miscue late in the game to prevent the Battery from securing the win.

The game versus the defending USL Champions marked the first meeting of the teams since Montreal knocked Charleston out of the USL1 playoffs last October. The Battery started brightly and took the lead in the 39th minute after Brandon Massie stole the ball from an Impact defender on the right side of the box.

Massie picked out second-year forward Tom Heinemann at the back-post who headed home past the Montreal goalkeeper.

The Battery looked to be headed to a victory but late in the game defender Nigel Marples and goalkeeper Reece Crowther failed to clear a Montreal through-ball allowing Hicham Aaboubou to run through and tap home into an empty net.

Montreal Impact midfielder Rudolph Mayard who is on a season-long loan with Charleston played the full ninety-minutes against his parent Club.

Next up for the Battery as they continue their preseason preparations is the Cooper River Bridge Run. Following the annual 10-K race the players will head to the Buccaneer Restaurant at 10 AM for a post-race breakfast and to watch the morning's English Premier League matches.
