SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Chivas USA fell 3-1 against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, Calif. in the last exhibition game before Friday's Home Opener against the Colorado Rapids at The Home Depot Center. Dominic Oduro, Brad Davis, and Adrian Serioux scored in the second half to give Houston Dynamo the victory over the Red-and-White before 1,657 fans that attended the 2nd Annual Spring Classic at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
The game was a classic hard-fought game between the two Western Conference rivals with hard tackles, three yellow cards, and various altercations between players during the match. Chivas USA created a total of nine shots on goal throughout the match but wasn't able to convert until the 83rd minute. Jorge Flores and Maykel Galindo were the most dangerous players by the Red-and-White in the first half, as well as Houston's Brian Mullan, who also created many problems for the Red-and-White defenders during the first 45 minutes.
Oduro scored the first goal of the match when he received a pass inside the box by Brian Ching at the 51 minute of play with a low shot to Chivas USA goalkeeper Jose Miranda's right post. Eight minutes later, Davis entered the match as a substitute for Corey Ashe and scored Houston's second goal within a minute when he picked up a deflected ball by a Chivas USA defender that originated from another Ching pass. After Houston's second goal, Chivas USA pressured Houston's defense and created many scoring opportunities that weren't capitalized until Yamith Cuesta headed a corner kick taken by Gerson Mayén in the 83rd minute. Four minutes later, Adrian Serioux scored a decisive third goal on a corner kick taken by Navas. Serioux anticipated a couple of defenders and headed the ball to Miranda's right post.
The 2010 regular season kicks off for Chivas USA on Friday when the team hosts the Colorado Rapids on Friday, March 26 at 7:30 at The Home Depot Center. Season seats, starting at just $10 per game, are available now at 1-877-CHIVAS-1 and cdchivasusa.com.
