Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA-Louisiana came into the Tuesday night's match-up with the Pensacola Ice Flyers needing a win desperately but fell short 7-5. The 'Gators only have six games remaining this season, with 12 points possible, and sit 11 points behind Columbus.

The 'Gators opened the game with a power play goal by Dean Moore, his first of the season. But the lead was not held for long. Kevin Kozlowski (PEN) scored the game-tying power play goal a little more than a minute later. The goal was ten seconds into a Matt Ruberto (LOU) hooking penalty. Thirty-six seconds later Brian Deeth (PEN) scored putting the 'Gators behind 2-1. Louisiana responded with a goal by Nick Pernula (LOU) half way through the first period.

Pensacola opened the second period scoring two goals in the first minute. Matt Whitehead (PEN) scored the first one 11 seconds into the period and Chris Rebernik (PEN) scored 31 seconds later. The IceGators' head coach, Dave MacIsaac, received a game misconduct with less than 14 minutes remaining in the period. Louisiana responded with three quick goals. Cam Lilley (LOU) scored the first goal with less than six minutes left in the period. Trevor Karasiewicz (LOU) scored the second goal and Lilley added his second goal of the game with 37 seconds remaining in the period. The second period was a period that the 'Gators out shot the Ice Flyers 19-6.

The Ice Flyers struck first in the third period, on an Erik Stoyanovich (PEN) goal, tying the game at five apiece. Lorne Misita (PEN) added a goal with 9:52 remaining in the game to give the Ice Flyers the lead. Misita then scored his second goal with 54 seconds remaining in the game.

"I was proud the way the team battled back," replied MacIsaac. "We have been close in the majority of the games this season but we have just been unable to get over the hump."

The 'Gators continue the road trip going to Huntsville (March 18) and Columbus (March 19). Louisiana will return home for the final time of the 2009-10 season on March 20 against the Columbus Cottonmouths.
