Chivas USA Earns 5-0 Win Over UCLA In Preseason Scrimmage

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, March 10, 2010) - Chivas USA used a second-half hat trick from forward Maykel Galindo to take a 5-0 win over UCLA in a preseason scrimmage held today on Field 6 at The Home Depot Center. Michael Lahoud and trialist Mario Padilla also scored for the Red-and-White, who kick off the MLS regular season on Friday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. PT against the Colorado Rapids.

In the first half, both teams traded chances in the early minutes, with Chivas USA hitting the bar off a corner kick and UCLA having a pair of shots go wide. Michael Lahoud then gave the home side the lead in the 23rd minute, finishing after a nice through ball from Sacha Kljestan. Mario Padilla doubled the advantage for the Red-and-White just seconds before halftime, ripping a 20-yard shot into the top corner off a pass from Gerson Mayén.

Maykel Galindo led the way for Chivas in the second half, scoring the first of his three goals in the 54th minute, chipping the goalkeeper after a brilliant through ball from Salvadoran midfielder Osael Romero. In the 69th minute, the pair linked up again, with Romero playing another through ball to Galindo, who dribbled past the goalkeeper and shot for his second goal. With three minutes left in the match, Galindo scored a third, taking advantage of a defensive miscue.

Chivas USA will play a closed-door scrimmage this Saturday, and then faces the Houston Dynamo on March 20 in Santa Barbara in the club's final preseason match.
