
Normal Cornbelters Trade For Springfield Native

NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, have acquired OF Phil Laurent. Laurent is a native of Springfield, IL, and he was traded for future considerations by the Washington Wild Things of the Independent Frontier League. The CornBelters will play the first home game of their inaugural season at the Corn Crib on Tuesday, June 1 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City Thunderbolts.
Laurent attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He started his professional career in 2007 with the River City Rascals (Frontier League) and was named to the All-Star Team. Following that season, the San Diego Padres signed him. He spent the 2009 season with the Wild Things where he amassed a.335 BA, with eight home runs and 40 RBI in 49 games. He also hit 17 doubles, with an OBP of.424, in 170 AB.
THE NIBLET: Corny will be at the 2010 Home Show on March 13th and 14th from 10a.m. to 12 p.m. We will be at the Busey Bank exhibit. The home show will be at the Interstate Center.
