Washington, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced today that they have traded outfielder Phil Laurent to the Normal Cornbelters. In exchange, the Wild Things receive infielders Paul Chmiel and Pat Kenny from Normal.

Laurent appeared in 49 games for the Wild Things in 2009, batting.335 with 60 hits, eight homeruns, 40 RBI and 37 runs. The Liberty University graduate is entering his fourth season in the Frontier League, having spent 2008 and part of 2007 with River City.

A native of Mount Pocono, Pa., Chmiel played for Aberdeen of the New York Penn League in 2008. In 39 games, he collected 31 hits, 12 doubles and 14 RBI. The Baltimore Orioles drafted Chmiel in the 22nd round of the 2005 draft, and he played for Bluefield of the Appalachian League from 2005 to 2007. In 2005, he appeared in 24 games with 15 hits, four doubles and two homeruns. He batted.286 in 2006, with 46 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, two homeruns and 28 RBI in 44 games. He posted a.297 average in 18 games in 2007, with 19 hits, two doubles and three homeruns.

"Paul is another big and strong left-handed hitter. I saw him play in the New York-Penn League in 2008 and we hope his experience will help us in the upcoming season," said Darin Everson, Washington Wild Things manager.

Kenny graduated from Madonna University in 2008, where he led the conference in homeruns (10). He also was an All-Conference First Team selection and a Gold Glove recipient. He batted.333 in 48 games with 55 hits, 10 doubles and 30 RBI. A four-year starter at shortstop and third base, Kenny also played collegiate ball at Saginaw Valley State University and Wayne State University. He batted over.300 throughout his college career.

"Pat is an athletic player that has the ability to play multiple positions in the infield," said Everson. "We're hoping he can come in and have a strong rookie season."

The Wild Things open their ninth season on May 21 at CONSOL Energy Park when they host the Oakland County Cruisers. Season ticket packages are available at the box office or by calling 724-250-9555.
