Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Simon Mangos scored twice and Ken Carroll made 35 saves as the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs extended their winning streak to eight games with a 3-2 victory over the Tulsa Oilers Sunday afternoon at the BOK Center. The win completed a perfect run of seven games in ten days for the Mudbugs, who also earned their 13th consecutive win over Tulsa.
Tyrel Lucas scored in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and help the 'Bugs to their fourth win over Tulsa in less than two weeks. Bossier-Shreveport improves to 33-17-4 for 70 points with ten games left in the regular season.
Mangos gave the Mudbugs the early lead with a powerplay goal in the first period as he skated into the Tulsa end, through the defense and right to the front before beating Marco Emond five-hole at 4:29. The Oilers tied it on a delayed penalty just over a minute later when Luke Stauffacher tipped in a point blast by Tyler Butler and the score was 1-1 heading to the second period.
Tulsa went on top 2-1 with a shorthanded goal as Troy Riddle raced into the Mudbugs end and beat Carroll at 3:47 of the second period. Mangos would then score his second goal during the same 'Bugs powerplay however, beating Emond with a quick shot into the top corner from the left circle. The Mudbugs kept the game tied with a fantastic penalty killing effort, nullifying 1:52 of 5-on-3 time for the Oilers.
With the game tied at two in the third and Bossier-Shreveport controlling in the Tulsa zone, Tyrel Lucas found some space in the high slot and fired a laser through traffic that snuck between Emond's pads to put the Mudbugs in front for good at 6:07.
The Mudbugs killed off all four Tulsa powerplays in the game while scoring twice on five opportunities themselves. Marco Emond stopped 21 shots in the loss as the Oilers outshot the 'Bugs 37-24.
The Mudbugs will now head home for their final regular season meeting against the Allen Americans Tuesday night at 7:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center.
