Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Overtime Operation
Sunday, for the first time this season, the Black Hawks won an overtime game without going to a shootout. The 4-3 win against Sioux Falls marked the first time Waterloo had scored in a five-minute extra period since a Lee Moffie goal in Lincoln pushed the Hawks past the Stars on March 6, 2009. Including shootouts, Waterloo is 3-2 in overtime this season. The Hawks didn't play an overtime game until December 12th at Cedar Rapids.
Arnold at Work
After scoring at least one goal in five consecutive games, Derek Arnold was limited to just an assist against Sioux Falls. Arnold scored seven times during his goal streak. His five consecutive games with a goal is the longest streak of its kind by a Black Hawk this season and ties for the third-longest in the USHL this season. As he picked up an assist Sunday, Arnold extended his point streak to six games, the longest of his career.
Making a Fresh Start
Jon Puskar and Andrew Panzarella debuted for the Black Hawks last weekend. Puskar contributed on the power play, assisting on a Brock Montpetit goal Friday against Chicago, then scoring himself Sunday during an advantage. He became the ninth different player this season to record a point during his first game in a Black Hawk jersey. Panzarella also picked up a point on Sunday with an assist on Tyler Barnes' late third period goal.
Musketeer Duels
The only USHL team that the Waterloo Black Hawks have not played this season is the Sioux City Musketeers, and the Hawks face them twice this week. Waterloo swept the season series against Sioux City in 2008-2009 and has a five-game winning streak against their cross-state rivals dating back to March of 2008. Former Hawk Nick Sorkin will look for his first point with Sioux City when the teams meet Tuesday evening.
