Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
It looked like Derek Arnold had a hat trick Friday, but the Waterloo Black Hawks forward settled for two goals, two assists, and a 6-1 win against the Chicago Steel at Young Arena.
Arnold appeared to score his third goal of the third period with a blast from the line on a power play with 3.1 seconds remaining in the game. However, a video review of the play after the game showed the shot was tipped by Alex Jensen on its way to the net. The late tally followed Arnold's efforts in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the period; the Foxboro, Massachusetts native scored twice in that time to open up what had been a 2-1 game through 40 minutes.
Brock Montpetit, who set up both of Arnold's goals, opened the scoring the first period with a power play goal which glanced off the leg of a Steel defender at 16:27. Chicago tied the game with a shorthanded penalty shot tally by Andrei Kuchin at 2:20 of the second. With a dozen seconds remaining in the period, Patrick Divjak put Waterloo back in front, banging in a rebound during a power play. Jamie Hill also added a Black Hawk goal on a penalty shot at 15:10 of the third.
C.J. Motte earned the win in the Black Hawk crease stopping 26 of 27 shots. The victory gives Waterloo a seven-point lead on Chicago for the final playoff spot in the USHL Eastern Division.
The Hawks are off Saturday but return to action Sunday afternoon at 3:05 against the Sioux Falls Stampede. Special offers for Sunday include $5 iWireless College Night tickets for all students at institutions of higher learning and the Domino's Family Four Pack (four tickets, four sodas, a One-Timer game program, and a large Domino's Pizza) for just $44.
