Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The season continues to wind down toward the playoffs as the Jr. Blues square off against the first place (Southern Division) Topeka Roadrunners. We take a moment to remember Illinois' Favorite Son and sixteenth President of our Great Nation on this, his birthday anniversary.
The Jr. Blues are healthy and will have everyone available for this weekend series against Topeka. Last weekend was a sweet victory over the St. Louis Bandits at the Scottrade Center, the home of the St. Louis Blues. The game followed the "Guns n Hoses" game that raised quite a bit of money for area charities.
So, let's get tonight's game underway, with only one thing more to say to kick off the weekend series...Let's go Blues!
A hard fought first period saw plenty of checking, plenty of hits and a goal by one of the newest Springfield Jr. Blue players, Tim Prinz at 2:49 into the game. He was assisted by Brian Prost and Joey Purull. The Jr. Blues played with a lot of energy during the period and continued to pester the Roadrunners with pass intercepts and good clean hits, keeping the Division leaders off balance throughout the period. So far, good! The talent is jelling now that everyone is healthy and it's good to see really good hockey by the good guys. The whole team has been playing better and better, but a few still stand out above the rest (which is saying something). Among those who do are the speed of Jared Rickord, Cody Hotchkin, Joey Purull, and Brian Prost. Ross Andersen has been playing his best hockey of the entire season, and Andy Martin doesn't look like this is his rookie season with the NAHL in goal. The Jr. Blues, if they continue to improve will be at their best just in time for the playoffs. Again, Let's go Blues!
Even playing as hard as they did during the first period just wasn't quite enough as the Roadrunners scored twice to take a 2 - 1 lead into the locker room for the second intermission. Still, the Jr. Blues played hard and the second goal was just "one of those things"! Andy Martin gathered the puck into his glove, but a well placed Roadrunner stick knocked the puck into goal for the lead. I've watched Scott Langer, the Topeka coach work the officials all game, but I don't think it has had any effect on calls as this officiating crew is one of the best in the league. Let's see how the good guys respond in the third and final period.
More of the same in period three, doggone it! Topeka showed why they are number one in the Southern Division. They took it to us tonight in the last half of the game. Final score 4 - 1. Tomorrow night is another game and maybe we can get a better outcome. Join us then on the b-2 network, internet pay per view and we'll send the article out to you right after the game.
