R-Phils Looking For Hungry Fans This Season

Reading, PA - The Reading Phillies are at it again, and food lovers listen up. Earlier today the R-Phils announced plans for three Gluttony Nights in 2010, and the first will hit Reading on Friday, April 9 - on just the second day of the season.

"We pushed the envelope with last year's Gluttony Nights," said R-Phils general manager Scott Hunsicker. "Why not push it again?"

Two weeks ago, during the unveiling of the R-Phils opening weekend festivities, the first Gluttony Night was revealed, giving fans a look back at last year's spectacular event - and an inside look of what they could expect in 2010.

Just like last year, any fan attending a Gluttony Night game will have the chance to chow down on some of their favorite ballpark food. For just $10, fans can buy a Gluttony Night wristband - which grants them all-you-can-eat cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pizza, French fries, ice cream, funnel cakes, and fountain sodas, from 5:00 until the 7th inning stretch. Fans can also take advantage of this exciting night by purchasing a discounted $15.00 combo ticket, which includes your choice of a green reserved seat, or general admission ticket, and the all-you-can-eat items at the concession stands.

"Last year, we gave fans two chances to partake in Gluttony Night, and with the overwhelming success, we decided to add a third," said Hunsicker. "We look forward to shattering any and all of our food records this season."

During the first Gluttony Night at FirstEnergy Stadium, a crowd of 6,435 of hungry R-Phils fans entered through the turnstiles -- the largest crowd on a Tuesday night during the month of May, and each fan consumed an average of $19 worth of food. The Gluttons set a stadium record by gulping down 4,549 hot dogs (1.77 per) -- topping the previous high of 4,275 sold on Father's Day 2008.

As part of the all-you-can-eat feeding frenzies held during the games on Gluttony Night I (May 19) and Gluttony Night II (August 26), the combined quantity of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, pizza, French fries, funnel cake, ice cream and soda consumed amounted to 39,239 - earning a nomination by Minor League Baseball as one of the top ten promotions of the 2009 season.

The second of three Gluttony Nights in 2010 will be held on June 1 during the 6:35 p.m. game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays). All fans in attendance who decide to buy the $10 wristband will once again have the opportunity to eat as much as they can.

Before the 2010 season concludes, a third Gluttony Night will take place on Monday, August 30. During the 7:05 p.m. contest against the New Britain Rock Cats (Minnesota Twins), fans will once again be able to eat as much as their hearts -- or bellies desire.
