The Manitoba Moose dropped a 3-1 decision to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday afternoon to finish their six-game road trip 1-5-0-0. Matt Pettinger scored Manitoba's lone goal while Daren Machesney stopped 25 of 27 shots in the loss.

Coming off a three point night against the Penguins yesterday, Matt Pettinger continued his success a short 1:07 into the rematch. With a pass from Mario Bliznak, Pettinger backhanded the puck over goaltender John Curry to open the scoring on the first shot of the night.

Matt Pope was penalized for slashing at 12:11 putting the home team on the opening powerplay. At 14:04 Tom Galvin joined Pope in the sin-bin - serving a delay of game penalty - giving the Penguins a six second five-on-three advantage. Manitoba's penalty killers fought off the two-man advantage, but the Penguins found a way to tie it up on their second opportunity. Daren Machesney blocked the initial blast from the point, but Ben Lovejoy chipped in the loose rebound to put his club back on even ground.

Manitoba received their first powerplay when Deryk Engelland was charged for hooking at 18:41. Despite bringing their shot count to seven on the advantage, the antler squad couldn't break the tie during the short two-minutes.

At 12:26 the Penguins earned their first lead of the game. Completely open in the slot, Tim Wallace slipped the puck past Machesney's sprawled left goal pad, 2-1. After 40 minutes of play the Penguins held on to their one-goal lead but the Moose lead the shot clock 21-19.

At 7:14 of the third period Zach Sill and Tommy Maxwell dropped their gloves near centre ice. After back-and-forth punches, Maxwell proved the winner of the brawl when he brought Sill to the ice. After all was said and done, both attackers were handed five-minute fighting majors.

Manitoba pulled Machesney in the final minute of play in hopes an extra-attacker would help them tie the game. A defensive slip up by Manitoba allowed Luca Caputi to confirm the victory with an empty netter at 18:48.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Moose will head home to host the San Antonio Rampage in a doubleheader next weekend.
