Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, January 31)... The Amerks earned their 29th win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Adirondack Phantoms at The Blue Cross Arena.*Finishing up January with a win helped the Amerks tie last season's win total with 29 wins. Rochester now stands with a record of 29-17-2-0 and remains in second in the North Division.
Jordan Henry opened the game with his seventh goal of the season. After Adirondack's Andreas Nodl failed to clear the zone, Henry picked up the loose puck at the right point and wristed a shot on goal that deflected off the glove of goalie Johan Backlund at 2:43. The goal was unassisted.
The Phantoms tied things up just 29 seconds into the second stanza on a bizarre goal that found its way into the back of the net past Amerks goaltender Alexander Salak. Defenseman Joonas Lehtivuori broke up the left wing side and blasted a shot on goal just inside the blueline. After Salak made the initial save, the rebound caromed into the slot, ricocheted off the skate of David Laliberte and into the net. Laliberte was credited for his 11 th goal of the season, as Lehtivuori and Patrick Maroon were awarded the assists on the goal. Adirondack outshot Rochester 20-4 during the period.
Center Jeff Taffe netted the game-winner at 13:51 in the third period with passes from center Jamie Johnson and winger Daniel Steiner to give the Amerks the 2-1 lead. Johnson's assist extends his consecutive game point streak to a season-high nine games giving him a total of 16 points in the month of January (6+10).
Solid play from Salak helped give the Amerks the win tonight against the Phantoms. Salak kicked away 37 saves while letting in just one goal. His strong play in the net tonight helped earn him the second star, while the first star went to Taffe and the third went to Phantom's Laliberte. Salak picked up his 22nd win as he started six of the last eight games between the pipes.
The Amerks kickoff their February slate as they visit the Lake Erie Monsters on Wednesday, February 3rd for a 7:00 p.m. North Division showdown at Quicken Loans Arena. The contest will be the sixth of eight scheduled meetings between the divisional rivals this season and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Rochester is 1-3-1-0 this season and 7-9-1 all-time against the Colorado Avalanche's affiliate.
