Seltzer Tabbed As R-Phils Radio Broadcaster

January 29, 2010 - Eastern League (EL) Reading Fightin Phils

Reading, PA - The Reading Phillies announced earlier today that Brian Seltzer has become the team's new radio play-by-play broadcaster for the upcoming 2010 season. A native of Elkins Park, PA, Seltzer will handle all 142 broadcasts for the team on ESPN 1240 WIOV and readingphillies.com. In conjunction with the announcement, ESPN 1240 AM WIOV and Service Electric Cable (SECTV 2), will return for the 2010 season to cover all of the R-Phils action.

"It's a tremendous privilege to join a tradition-rich franchise that holds such a strong identity within the Reading and Minor League Baseball communities," said Seltzer. "I'm grateful that Craig Stein, Scott Hunsicker, and the rest of the Reading Phillies organization have entrusted me with this responsibility. I'm eager to pour my energies into this role, and in the process strengthen the connection between the club and its fans."

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in 2007, Seltzer is currently in his fifth season providing play-by-play commentary for the school's men's basketball team, a position he has held since being appointed in his junior year. Seltzer, who resides in Philadelphia, recently completed his second campaign as the play-by-play announcer for the University of Penn football team, and has served as the play-by-play announcer for Penn baseball games since 2004. In addition to assuming traditional radio broadcasting roles for the University of Penn's Athletics Department, he also developed and implemented a variety of new media initiatives, such as streaming internet audio broadcasts of the school's baseball games.

During his senior year at Penn, Seltzer served as the Philadelphia Eagles beat reporter for 97.5 FM The Fanatic / 950 AM ESPN and his coverage earned him two Philadelphia Achievement in Radio (A.I.R.) awards in the category of 'Best Sports Reporting'. His exclusive Eagles stories have resulted in consistent local and national television appearances on Comcast Sports Net, ESPN, and ESPNews, and have been cited by popular websites ESPN.com and ProFootballTalk.com.

ESPN 1240 AM WIOV, based in Ephrata, PA, will begin its eleventh season with the R-Phils, having carried R-Phils baseball since the 2000 season. They'll carry all 71 home games and all 71 away games, and air times of all games will be posted on readingphillies.com during the season.

The 2010 season will be the R-Phils fifth on SECTV 2 Sports. Beginning with the home opener on April 8, SECTV 2 will carry 22 select games throughout the 2010 season. Based in Allentown, PA, SECTV 2 Sports produces the games which will also be carried by network affiliates Service Electric Cablevision, Service Electric Company, Blue Ridge Cable TV-11, Blue Ridge Cable TV-13 and WYLN-35. Overall, R-Phils games will reach more than one million homes in 2010.

"We are excited and extremely happy to continue our partnership with the Reading Phillies for the 2010 season," said SECTV 2 General Manager Andy Himmelwright. "We will continue to bring fans an up close and in depth look at the Reading Phillies during all 22 broadcasts this season."

Back for another season in the booth for all R-Phils games on Service Electric Cable (SECTV 2) will be longtime R-Phils radio broadcaster, Steve Degler. Degler, who served as the R-Phils primary radio voice since 1992, was the longest tenured broadcaster in the Eastern League before his departure in 2008. The Kutztown University product is now entering his second season handling analysis for SECTV 2 on all 72 televised Lehigh Valley IronPigs games.

Joining Degler in the R-Phils TV booth for his fourth season to handle analysis is Tim Neiman. Neiman brings with him nearly 30 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, plus scouting experience with the Pirates and White Sox.
