JACKSONVILLE, FL - Two Jacksonville Suns were recognized as top prospects in all of Minor League Baseball by MLB.com. Outfielder Mike Stanton (#3-rated prospect) and first baseman Logan Morrison (#25), two of the Suns' biggest producers from the 2009 Southern League Championship squad, were honored for their production to date as well as their future potential with the Florida Marlins.
Stanton, who joined the Suns on June 5 after a call-up from Class-A Jupiter, finished the season with a combined.255 average, 28 home runs and 92 RBIs in 129 games. The second-round pick from the 2007 draft posted 16 homers and 15 doubles in only 79 games with the Suns in 2009, and was named to the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League, where he had a.478 average and.609 slugging percentage in six games.
Morrison, a 22nd-round selection in the 2005 draft, began the 2009 season with the Suns after an MVP year with Class-A Jupiter in 2008. Despite missing eight weeks with a hand injury, Morrison nevertheless slugged eight home runs and 18 doubles in 79 games for the Suns, with a career-high 63 walks and.411 on-base percentage. He was also a vital part of the Suns' championship run, batting.360 with four doubles and nine runs scored in the 2009 playoffs.
The Top 50 Prospect list is compiled by MLB.com among players who have rookie eligibility with Major League Baseball. In all, 26 Major League teams had at least one player honored. Stanton and Morrison were the only two Marlins players recognized in the top 50. The full list is available at www.milb.com.
The Jacksonville Suns are the Double-A Affiliate of the Florida Marlins and are proud members of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs.
