Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Showcase Event
After the Black Hawks' representatives were held off the score sheet last winter, Brock Montpetit and Tyler Barnes will try to make some noise at this year's USHL All-Star Game, tonight in Indianapolis. If either Montpetit or Barnes scores, they would be the first Black Hawk with an All-Star Game goal since Blake Kessel in 2008. Montpetit played in that game at Green Bay and scored less than a minute before Kessel.
Drive to Five
After playing four straight home games, the Black Hawks will be traveling to five consecutive road contests in Ann Arbor, Youngstown, and Indianapolis in the next few weeks. This will be the Hawks' second five-game stretch away from home after going 1-3-1 during a similar portion of the schedule in December. Waterloo was slated to play at home against Sioux Falls on February 3rd, but that game has been moved to March 24th.
Packed with Positives
Brock Montpetit and J.T. Brown are both among the USHL's best players in plus-minus rating. Montpetit ranks fifth at +21, while Brown is one spot back at +20. Plus-minus is a measure of two-way playing effectiveness. When a player is on ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal, they receive a plus-minus point, while loosing one if they are on the playing surface when an even-strength or shorthanded goal is scored against their team.
Dueling to Define the Division
The Black Hawks play their next six games against the four clubs just ahead of or behind them in the USHL Eastern Division standings. The match-ups with Team USA, Youngstown, Indiana, and Chicago will be critical to determining who reaches the postseason. Waterloo is 1-0-0 versus Team USA, 1-1-0 against Youngstown, 1-2-1 with Indiana, and 2-2-0 squared off against Chicago.
